TRAVEL LOG

FEBRUARY 3: Taylor departs Indianapolis for Lusaka, Zambia.

FEBRUARY 4: Bob departs Indianapolis for Lusaka via Chicago and London.
Taylor (and her bags!) arrive in Lusaka.

FEBRUARY 5: Bob arrives in Zambia. "Landed in Lusaka at sunrise this morning. Beautiful colors from above the
clouds. Steamy hot from the recent rains. All bags, including the bicycle, had been opened by TSA.
All expensive and critical components accounted for."

FEBRUARY 9: Bob arrives in Lubumbashi. "Arrived safely in Lubumbashi. Border was slammed with large transports
headed to DRC. Plenty of adventure, no problems."

FEBRUARY 10: FPM spent the day building bicycles and preparing to head to Tenke.

FEBRUARY 11: Bob has breakfast with Bishop Katembo and discusses plans to ride to Mulongo.

"Lots of adventure. No problems.
9 days, 550 kms, 2 days rained out. Came straight over Kantanga's highest mountain."

Blog post - Return to Mitwaba

                 of the malaria epidemic.

                 Blog post - Community Health

MARCH 7: Bob reaches Nymbo Umpungo. Three days on the road. Crossed the Congo River on pirogue,
climbed a mountain to Mwanza, saw a wildcat Coltan mines. Slowed up by generous hospitality.

MARCH 8:
Bob and team rolled into Kabondo Dianda at noon. Good sized crossroads market town
                 and a Vodacom tower.

MARCH 9: Bob stopped under a Vodacom tower on top of the mountain 20 kms out of Bukama. Pitched our
tents last night with other travelers in what is called called a restaurant, a grass shelter where a couple
women will heat water for you. Rained hard this morning, but it looks like rest of day is going to be nice.

Our people in Luena are working with the railroad people to get us and our bikes on a southbound
freight train. We've done twice this before, but it requires several officials to agree to it.

MARCH 10:
All set. They added an extra car to the train for us. What a way to run a railroad! I love how things
get done through relationships. Should be off some time tonight.

MARCH 15: The 2010 Tenke to Mulongo Expedition is now officially complete. Bob is in Lusaka awaiting a
flight to London. Lots to share.

MARCH 18: Blog post - The Team
