What is the Missiology of Friendly Planet?

What is Friendly Planet Missiology?

Friendly Planet Missiology is a non-profit organization committed to strengthening communities through intellectual, spiritual and financial support. Founded in 2009 by the father daughter team of Bob Walters and Taylor Walters Denyer, the pair use their expertise in community development, peace building and ministry to facilitate long-term change for burdened communities. Currently our focus is on the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Friendly Planet Missiology is a very light touch to some of the world’s most heavy issues. We leave a very small footprint, but a large change. We are all about action, about empowering communities to reach their leadership potential and showing them that there can be joy and fellowship across all barriers in the process; that this can be a “friendly planet”.

What is the Missiology of Friendly Planet?
Our Missiology is rooted in the understanding that the community already possess ample wisdom to solve its problems. Our role is to listen deeply and facilitate robust conversation that leads to the identification of causes and solutions. Our goal is long term change that leverages the potential of the community.

As needs are identified, tangible solutions are shaped, such as bicycles or church construction. The real goal is to claim local resources, empowering the region to become self-sufficient. Instead of importing rice from Viet Nam, the Mitwaba District could be feeding the whole providence and even exporting food. In the midst of a global cement shortage, the town of Lubudi could be supplying cement for all of southern Africa. The wealth of the mines of Kantanga could fund the eradication of HIV/AIDS, malaria, and cholera.

Friendly Planet participates not out of pity for the community’s need, but out of excitement for their potential.
